Challenge

Compared to the national average, only 14% of DC 4th Grade students are proficient in reading and math. 10% of 8th grade students are. New Community for Children believes that excellent educational opportunities are essential to helping families break out of the poverty cycle. We currently work with over 300 youth ages 5-20 from all over of DC.

Solution

New Community for Children (NCFC) provides children and youth with learning experiences that build up their academic, social, and creative skills. We believe that excellent educational opportunities are the key to helping families break out of the poverty cycle. We offer creative hands-on learning in our after school program, and advocate for healthy families and challenging schools to support that goal.
NCFC provides 300 children and youth in Washington DC's Shaw community with learning experiences that build their academic, social and creative skills.

Long-Term Impact

Our project will offer opportunities for 300 kids, age 5-20, throughout the school year to strengthen their academic skills, find expression through art, engage in recreational activities and build a positive self-esteem during out of school hours.
