An Indian film entitled “3 Idiots” have won numerous awards both inside and outside of India. It is critically acclaimed as one of the best foreign films of all time and is currently the highest grossing Bollywood film. The movie features the college life of three engineering students at the Imperial College of Engineering. With the college Dean and his model student the college life of these three young gentlemen became a roller coaster of happiness, true friendship, trials and success.

Happiness is what I felt the most throughout the movie. At the beginning I was laughing so hard as to how the actors handled and portrayed their roles. Everytime a problem occurs, the main character 'Rancho' always make ways to bring happiness to everyone around him, especially to his two friends – 'Farhan' and 'Raju'. Most of the time, Rancho makes a scene that would turn the other students to laugh – but always with a life lesson he wanted to share. Later did I realize that in the most creative ways, Rancho wanted to prove that in life – no matter how many trials came which brought along sadness – never forget to smile and be positive, and always think that “All is well”.

True friendship is what the three main characters showed amidst their differences. Personally, I was totally amazed because the friendship that they have is something that would really last a lifetime. With true friends, college life becomes colorful and seems to be not as hard as you think it would be. I couldn’t help but smile and got teary-eyed at the same time when it comes to the heartwarming scenes and I am happy that I myself have experienced a ‘friendly college life’.

But of course, trials also plays an important role in life. In the movie, the college Dean and his favorite student - 'Chatur’ - were on of the factors in the main characters’ trials. Unfortunately for the Dean, his daughter - ‘Pia’ - somehow fell in Rancho’s charms and at some point would be an accomplice with the three main characters. Each character is really awesome and I can say that they’ve portrayed their roles so well, that they have brought out the best and the worst out of their portrayals.

“Pursue excellence and success will follow”. In the movie, success is the main goal of the main characters. It also gave way for them to be reunited after 10 years of being successful and living the life they wanted. It really was amazing when Farhan, Raju, Chatur, and Pia tried to connect every detail that has happened during college which brought them to the real identity of Rancho that is – Phunsukh.

The movie is truly great as it teaches valuable lessons not only for college but also for one’s life. It is an obra maestra that can transform audiences into better persons within the span of two and a half hours. In my opinion, the film should be showed and shared to others, especially to students taking up engineering – with the hope of imparting the life - changing lessons and bring out the “Rancho” in everybody.
