Cosmopolitan Ornamental

Early last spring I was out for a walk and came across a funny little stick. Nothing very special, it actually just seemed like a broken branch off a small tree.
Being curious by nature I picked it up.
Upon closer examination I saw that it had some small pale hair-like roots on one end.
With the dog looking at me as if disappointed it wasn't a toy, I stuck it my pocket and headed home.
Back at the house I took the stick and put it in the garden,
A month or two later, I noticed it had gotten a nice green color, maybe even grew a bit.
Eventually it grew some very strange little red spikes on top and I began to wonder if it might be a thorn bush or some destructive weed.
Another few months went by and suddenly the red spikes had become large green leaves,
It grew taller and lots of leaves began to grow making it into a pretty little addition to the garden.
This month it suddenly grew a wonderful little crown of buds.
Looking much like the spikes, I figured it was a new growth of branches.
It didn't take long before the crown started to become blossoms, blossoms that turned into the most lovely flowers!
The perfume like aroma from the flowers filled the yard and in the evening got stronger.
It turns out my little ugly stick was actually the beautiful Kalachuchi!
Known in many parts of the world by different names like Frangipani, Plumeria and Temple Flower it is considered sacred by some people.
I don't know if the dog will ever forgive me for withholding such an amazing chew toy, but somehow I think the stick itself is quite pleased with my decision.
