How you can help our farmers? #SupportLocal

Today, it is a big challenge for our local farmers to transport, and sell their products to the market. Most especially in this time of pandemic.

Because our local farmers are really struggling in terms of capital, not enough government support, lack of information, and everyone is not into farming.

But as an individual you can do your part to help our local farmers to grow. Here are the following ways you can support them.

1. Buy at the local market or palengke.

Most of all the local farmer's product can be found at the local market. Where is the best place to buy rice, fruits, and vegetables. Purchasing them is the best way to show your respect, and supports to our local farmers.

2. Avoid haggling or in our term tawad.

Last time I watched a documentary on TV about the Benguet farmers throwing their vegetables because of over supply. Meaning to say that there is an excessive supply in the market that decided them to throw their products.

Especially in this time of pandemic that most of the market are closed our farmers is really struggling. So when buying local farmer's product avoid haggling because we should realize the hard work, capital, expenses, and time that our farmers spent in in growing procedure. And it is important to pay them fairly.

3. Prioritize buying local rice.

I grow up eating locally produced rice until now. But producing rice in our country is a big problem because of lack of support from the government. If they help of local rice farmers to grow, we don't need to import rice from other neighboring country. As much as possible buy locally produce rice as a support to our local farmers.

4. Buy online.

Because of this pandemic most of the people prefer to buy products online. To avoid possible transmission of the virus. But they are some specialty store online that sells locally produce product online. Where they can deliver to your doorstep fresh.

5. Make an impact or awareness through your social media.

Because of this pandemic most of the people spend their time browsing the internet. Why not using your social media platform to make an impact, and awareness about our struggling local Filipino farmers. With that, you can educate the people to support, and prioritize our local farmers.

They are a lot of ways we can help our local farmers, but I highlight the best way we can help them. This will not only benefit them but also our economy to grow again.
