ICT Capacitation using learning management systems

Learning management systems (LMS) have been existent for years, and recently, its utilization, not only for the educational institutions but also for other enterprises, suddenly increased. These played and continue to play an essential position in today's educational system transformation, especially since researches established their significant influences and positive impact in enhancing learning experiences and facilitation of knowledge transfer (Al-Kathiri, 2015; Nurhayati, 2019; Willans, 2019). These LMS or virtual learning environments (VLEs) deliver notable learning continuity contributions without having to worry about time and space constraints.

Nowadays, shifting learning through multi-platforms in times of pandemic and new 'normal' poses a challenge to learning institutions, including our training center. For the longest time, we have been conducting classes through face-to-face interactions. Thus, it was not 100% prepared to utilize educational technology tools as an alternative platform for learning when the pandemic started. Staff, instructors and students today are fraught with problems caused by the COVID-19 as everyone faces adjustments and shifts to online educational system.

Though e-learning is widely utilized, and training resources are accessible as embedded on Learning Management Systems (LMS) or other computer-based teaching tools, it is only now that everyone is getting conscious vis-à-vis their technology fluency and LMS opportunities. Henceforth, the webinar on ICT capacitation is very timely. In fact, a communication from the higher office informed training centers that opening of career courses will involve multi-platform utilization. This entails designing learning plans that are still interactive and engaging even beyond the classroom's four walls.

With such premise, it is hereby advantageous to conduct a webinar on ICT capacitation using learning management systems such as Schoology or Edmodo. Though there are many learning management systems that educational institutions utilize, depending on the school's context, type, or requirements, our training center can start on free LMS such as the aforementioned apps. Besides, it would still be advantageous on our part. The two are budget-friendly as they are freely accessible. Thus, the training center will not shell out significant funds from its limited monthly budget allotment. Second, these have a familiar interface or easy-to-follow instructions, which implies being user-friendly even for beginners. Third, these can be accessed even with mobile phones, hence favorable for the students wherever they are and whatever time it is. Fourth, the effectiveness of these tools in contributing to meaningful learning experiences is significant, which implies that it would be easier to justify its use if the higher headquarters ask for it.
