Don’t get me wrong. I am in no way a japanese. This phrase is just as meaningful to me as it was a very long time ago.

There was once a fable in an ancient civilization before. About a gloomy king who has earnestly tried his best to be happy -or at the very least, be genuinely okay. Even if it’s just for a moment. At the very least, we all want to be okay.

One day, the king stubbornly ask his wise men to give him something that would ease his weary heart and make him okay every time. He was desperate.

Any thing would do. Any thing that would let the tear fall not in misery but rather in hope. Any thing that would give him the eye to see that there is life in the warmth of the sunlight, the laughter of the strangers, and the little pond in the pavement after the pouring rain.

Just any thing.

One day, his closest friend left him a ring. And said, “I hope this would give you something I so want to give you but failed to do so.”

Since then, every time the king felt the same heaviness in his heart, he would look at the ring. Every time life is sad, he would look at the ring.

Engrave on the ring are the words, “This too shall pass”.
And he would feel okay.
Since then, life has been more hopeful. Life has been warmer.

I hope it fills you with warmth too.

Whatever it is. Only you knows. Kore mo sugiro, this too shall pass.
