Perseverance #DONATEANOTEBOOK

When I was a grade-schooler, my handwriting is unreadable for many because at a young age I have issues with my hand due to anxiety and medical concerns. But as time goes by, it became more readable for most people. Although prolonged writing hurts my hand that’s why I prefer to write on a keyboard. Ever since I became a teacher, I see my former self to my students, the struggles writing for hours straight, and the difficulty of reading what is on the blackboard to write it to my notebook. Although for the last part, I always ask my teacher if I could go near the board so its much easier for me to see it, but now that I’m a teacher, I would prefer to give my students a soft copy of our lesson online so that we could focus more on discussions rather than writing it. I know some teachers would not agree with it, especially the ones that are tenured or veteran in the field. I still pursue that method because is to see that it works better not just for me but also for my students because we are able to tackle our discussion plus some their own curiosities on the subject which challenges my knowledge as well as theirs. But there is still one student that prefers to write down the lesson, he is a silent type of student, own my perspective I would consider him an introvert. I seldom see him with friends and when I do, I only see him with 2 to 3 friends with him. When I asked him why is he writing the lessons, He replied “Mas naiintindihan ko po kasi kapag sinusulat ko po yung lesson sir”. Which is true because that’s the same student that I get the most challenging questions with. I mean, he doesn’t just ask how a sandwich is made, he also asked me why should a sandwich is made that way. Even during our quizzes and tests, he always gets on the top 10 highest score. which inspires me to do more during our discussions.

One day, I noticed that he is using a different subject notebook while he is writing for our discussion. During class, I didn’t ask him about it out of respect but after class, I asked him about what I saw and he replied “Puno na po kasi yung TLE notebook ko sir”, I told him to buy a new one, he replied “wala po akong pera”, I told him to ask money from his parents but he no longer replied. I asked his adviser about his family background, then I knew the answer. He came from a very poor family that can barely afford his school supplies, in the morning he works as a helper on a seafood store and in the afternoon he is a student. Given the circumstances, I bought a bundle of cattleya notebooks for him to write on to. I was inspired by that student, despite of his struggles in life, he keeps on pushing forward, he may not have everything in life but he has something a once life could ever have. Perseverance.

I deeply and wholeheartedly salute all educators, mentors or teachers like you, Sir! Thank you for being considerate. The fact that you made effort and time to know the student's struggle is out of your job already but still did it. Mabuhay po kayong mga butihing guro <3 <3
