Wait On The Lord

“Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!”
 	- Psalm 27:14 (NKJV)

We may have heard of the line, “Good things come to those who wait,” a gazillion times already, yet most people hate waiting. We all have experienced waiting: on a line in the cash register, for the phone to charge, for the friend who wanted to go together, for the download to finish, for the ride home. Waiting is so exasperating.

Today’s generation likes instant everything — from the instant food to the instant messaging. Technology has a lot of advantages but sadly, it also has a number of disadvantages. It makes us impatient and wanting to speed every single thing up. This frame of mind often leads us to rushing into decisions and doing things on our own, which leads us to the big question: “Why did God command us to wait on Him?”

“God always has good reasons for making us wait. Waiting is a part of life and one of God’s tools for developing people. The Bible is full of stories of people having to wait on God, such as Noah, Abraham, Moses, Joseph, David, Daniel, Jesus, Paul and countless others.”
 	- Eric Speir

1. Waiting molds our character. Waiting is hard but it’s when the Lord molds our character. We learn to entrust God with our daily life, our needs, and our wants. It is when we establish self-control and inquire God first instead of making choices and commitments on our own. We eventually just hold on to His word and continue to believe that He knows what is best for us. We are then refined and polished, slowly growing into Christlikeness.

2. Waiting strengthens our hearts. Doing things in our own ways can result to unnecessary pain, exhaustion, and weariness. We may possibly invest effort, time and energy on the wrong recipient. God promised to strengthen our hearts if we wait on Him and when your strength comes from God, no amount of waiting can incapacitate it. We all know that God wants only the best for us and only He can provide it for us.

“Those who wait upon the Lord are promised His supernatural energy. In fact, Scripture says it will surpass the natural strength and endurance of the young.”

3. Waiting builds a more intimate relationship with God. Waiting, especially during the difficult times, makes us closer to Him and it enhances our dependency on Him as well. If we want to know His will and plans for us, walk with Him. The completion of His promise for us is achieved not by moving faster but by moving slowly but surely. With that, we will have more time to focus on Him and seek His ways.

“Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for Him;..”

	- Psalm 37:7

Since I love you, my darling reader, and I care about your precious heart, I’m going to share this with you: I have also been a victim of my own impatience. I’ve also experienced a great amount of unnecessary pain just because I couldn’t wait for His perfect time. I’ve made choices without asking Him about His best choice for me. I settled for things I thought I deserve, not knowing that the best things in store for me comes from Him alone.

He only desires what’s best for us because that is what we deserve. If He is making you wait right now, there is an exceedingly good reason for it. If His answer is “no”, it is because He has something better for you. Do not settle for anything less than God’s best. Wherever you are today, stand firm and stay strong. God is always by your side, trust Him with all your heart, keep your faith! Much love. ♥

“And now, Lord, for what do I wait? My hope is in You.”
 	- Psalm 39:7
